Our Heritage

From our foundation in 1906 to the present, Transamerica has built its business on a promise to provide customers with quality financial solutions and a tradition of excellence.

This long tradition continues in Asia with our first sales office established in Shanghai in 1933. Transamerica extended its commitment to the region with new sales offices in major northern cities until World War II forced their temporary closures.

Our Commitment to Asia

Despite office closures, one legendary agent, Tsufa Lee, decided to hide the policy documents to prevent possible document loss. He later recovered the documents enabling us to honour our commitment to customers and pay claims to policyholders in China.

Since 1947, Transamerica Companies have continued to serve in Asia and a full-service branch office opened in Hong Kong in 1993. In 2005, Transamerica Life Bermuda was established with full-service branches opened in Hong Kong and Singapore in 2006.

Our Timeline

What is now Transamerica began in 1904 as the vision of a young entrepreneur, AP Giannini, with the establishment of a community bank serving small businesses and farmers.

Our Pyramid

After decades of expansion, Transamerica commissioned architect William Pereira to design a new headquarters in San Francisco. The Transamerica Pyramid was completed in 1972, and remains San Francisco's tallest building.

Today, the Transamerica Pyramid is a distinctive structure revered by San Franciscans and recognised internationally. It is an iconic symbol in a city known for inclusiveness and stands as a source of great pride for Transamerica.

The Transamerica Pyramid building and logos featuring it are registered trademarks and primary identifiers of product authenticity for Transamerica Companies.
